How each herb in Arthronil, the ayurvedic medicine for Rheumatoid Arthritis, would help you?
- Cyperus Rotundus - The rhizomes of Cyperus Rotundus (Nagarmotha, Nutgrass) has been widely used for years to treat stomach and bowel disorders. Its an excellent anti-inflammatory herb. In the pathogenesis of inflammatory problems, Nitric oxide and its Superoxide are important mediators. It has been found in a study that when methanol extract of Cyperus Rhizomes is administered, the Nitric oxide production is inhibited and hence it has a strong inflammatory action. This herb also harmonizes the liver, spleen, and pancreas. Nagarmotha, in ayurveda, is treated to be "ama-pachaka" (detoxifier) and hence it has a corrective action for endo-toxins.
It has good digestive and carminative properties. An effective remedy for intestinal worms.
- Ginger (Zingiber Officinale) can ease arthritis pain. A study led by Prof. Rheumatologist Ray Altman, believes that Ginger can be an excellent natural remedy for pain relief in almost 60% patients. Research suggests ginger root inhibits production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are involved in pain and inflammation. There is an ayurvedic verse which says that everybody should chew fresh Ginger before and after lunch and dinner to ease and strengthen digestion. It also improves assimilation of food and helps in carrying nutrients to the bodily tissues. The best property of Ginger in relation to arthritis would be that, it clear the micro-circulatory channels of your body thereby improving blood circulation, and hence alleviating many symptoms of arthritis.
- Picorrhiza Kurroa (Kutaki) for years has been used for all liver problems. It has antioxidant properties. It enhances the action of other anti-inflammatory herbs and Other studies have shown Picrorhiza to be somewhat effective in reducing the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. Kutaki is Stomachic, chloagogue, anti-periodic, and can be an excellent addition to a natural formula for rheumatoid arthritis.
- Saussurea Lappa (Kushtha) is also anti-inflammatory ayurvedic herb. Besides diverse pharmaceutical applications, Sausurea lappa roots have been widely recommended in inflammation-related diseases characterized by rheumatoid arthritis, chronic gastritis, asthma and bronchitis in traditional medicine. It also helps in relieving edema of the legs and improves blood circulation.
- Tinospora Cordifolia - Besides being a catalyst to any formulation, its added to, Tinospora or "Amruta" as it is called, is anti-inflammatory in action. It has proven to be very effective in cases of induced oedema, and human rheumatoid arthritis with its anti-inflammatory action. Its useful alkaloids and bitter principles help in prevention of fibrosis, gout and all types of arthritis.
- Licorice (Glycyrrhiza Glabra) - Licorice extracts and derivatives have been used for years as a natural remedy to relieve inflammatory disorders, promote adrenal gland function and increase fluidity of mucus. A better form of Licorice called DGL (De-Glycyrrhizinated Licorice) prevents ulcers by promoting the number of mucus-secreting cells in the digestive tract. Its a good addition to an ayurvedic remedy for a condition like rheumatoid arthritis.
