Ingredients of Madhumati Ayurvedic Tea
- Gymnema Sylvestre (Gurmar) - The Latin name Gymnema Sylvestre means "sugar destroyer" and is considered a herbal remedy for high blood sugar. Traditionally it was recommended for stomach problems, constipation, water retention and liver disease although modern research centers around it use for type II diabetes. Gymnema has been clinically proven to reduce excessively high blood sugar levels, perhaps as a result of boosting the production of insulin required to process sugar.
- Aegle Marmelos (Belpatra) - According to ayurveda, diabetes is a metabolic kapha type of disorder in which diminished functioning of agni leads to a tendency toward high blood sugar. Belpatra helps in balancing Kapha. Ayurvedic practitioners attack diabetes using a multiprong approach. First, they address diet modification, eliminating sugar and simple carbohydrates, and emphasizing complex carbohydrates. Protein is limited, since excessive intake can damage the kidneys. Fat is also limited because there is often a deficiency of pancreatic enzymes, making fat digestion difficult. Since many diabetics have autoantibodies, a cleansing program is instituted.
- Ocimum Sanctum (Tulsi) - Tulsi treats common cold and cough, fights allergies and has a potential anti-diabetic effect. Helps diabetics to avoid symptoms like arthritis and retinopathy etc. Scientific research has confirmed that Tulsi reduces stress, improves stamina, boosts immunity and provides a rich supply of anti-oxidants.
- Pterocarpus Marsupium (Vijayasar) - Researchers at the University of New England, Armidale, are exploring the possibility of a once-a-week dosage for the treatment of diabetes. The project leader, physiologist Dr Jim McFarlane, said trials on sheep had indicated that the traditional medicine, known in India as "Vijayasar"(Pterocarpus Marsupium), has several important advantages over drugs currently used in the West to boost insulin production by the pancreas. "In our trials it acted quickly (within 24 hours)," he said, "and one dose was effective for seven days.
